The 3rd Generation Coating: Kollicoat IR
Kollicoat IR coating systems are based mainly on the highly flexible film former Kollicoat IR.
Kollicoat IR, known as 3rd generation coating material, is a polyvinyl alcohol polyethylene glycol graft copolymer. In contrast to 1st and 2nd generation coating materials HPMC and PVA, Kollicoat IR’s backbone out of polyethylene glycol acts as a plasticizer. Due to the covalent bonding of the softening agent no migration of the plasticizer will occur. The tablets show high stability and will not get tacky during their storage. The addition of further plasticizer is not necessary.

Kollicoat IR is BASF’s latest 3rd generation coating polymer.
CAS No: 96734-39-3
